- Legacy Modifications -

These modifications are what I have done. There is no guarantee that they will work for you. I hold no responsibility for any damages done to yourself, your vehicle, or your warranty.

Intake Silencer Removal (Snorkasectomy)

This mod is supposed to free up the intake, and have it suck cooler air from the fender well by removing the large plastic intake silencer box (see exploded diagram). I found out that this mod actually does nothing for performance. If you check the G-Tech Data section, you can see that there was no improvement in either my 0-60 or 1/4 mi times. This mod is, however, completely free, and very easy to perform. You also get a nice intake sound at WOT, but remember volume does not equal performance. A good write up for perfoming this mod can be found at Remarcable's page.

18 mm Rear Sway Bar

This is highly recommended as the first mod to perform on your Legacy. Regular Legacies come with 15 mm bars. The Outbacks and older turbo Legacies came with 18 mm bars. The beefier bar reduces body roll and over-steering. It was actually pretty easy to swap the sway bar and took less than 30 min to perform. I'm told that you need to keep the suspension loaded while changing the bar, so I rolled it up on ramps. Four bolts hold the bar on: 2 that connect it to the frame, and 2 to the drop links on the axles.

OEM Tweeter Kit

These tweeters are not great, but they definitely make a difference, cheap, and look good. They're also really easy to install since the car is already wired for them.

6-Disc in-dash CD Changer with Cassette

This is from an Impreza WRX. It's pretty decent, and these are pretty easy to find cheaply. I think it sounds better than my original RS cd player, plus it holds 6 discs. One drawback... The WRX has a separate clock in the dash, so the head unit has no clock.

Subaru Factory (Clarion) Subwoofer

This is the factory subwoofer that fits under the front seat. It is by no means spectacular, and one shouldn't expect earth shattering bass. It's there to round out the sound, and I think it does that nicely. It is also completely stealth, and takes up no usable cargo space. The harness includes a T-Splitter that plugs into the back of the head unit then routes under the center console.

Auxiliary Power Outlet

I use this outlet for my handsfree kit for my cell phone. The power is spliced from the cigarette lighter. The placement of this is great for what I wanted.

GT Interior

Taken off a new '97 GT for leather (I think). Replaced the cigarette burned seat covers. The new ones look amazing. Isn't Ebay great?

Custom Painted Emblem

Followed the instructions found here. I used Testors flat red enamel paint, which looks great with my dark blue car.
